Slightly Above Beginner Level

I had a bad day at French class.
First, I got in trouble because I didn't remember my future verb endings.
Then I was informed that I'm "slightly above beginner" level. I felt completely defeated and spent the rest of the class time making stupid mistakes. I'm no pyschological puzzle; tell me I'm dumb and I'll believe you and behave accordingly.
I don't know how a cumulative 14 months of French classes over the past three years could still leave me at "slightly above beginner level". At this rate, maybe after my contract is done in two years I'll be able to communicate with kindergardeners.
Now I'm facing a lot of guilt because I know how much trouble Alfredo went though to get me here, how much it cost the company, and how high everyone's expectations are for me. And all I'm good for is data entry because I can't communicate.
