We had been talking about what kind of car we wanted for many months, almost as soon as we knew we might be moving to France. I've wanted a Peugeot 206 for years, and Dave was hoping for a Clio Sport.
But, as usual, logic prevails. I found a Citreon C2 posted for sale at work, and after test driving it a few weeks ago we decided that it was safer to buy a low-mileage car from someone we could trust, someone I could hunt down if we had any questions or it turned out to be a lemon.
After some difficulty moving money between three different banks, we met the owner on Saturday and went through the paperwork. It was pretty easy, and we can drive the car with the old plates for a month until we get new ones. Next week will be the hard part; poor David has to figure out insurance and we have to apply for French driver's licenses.
The car is red, which is a shame because we both hate red cars. It has an "ambiance" package, which means it has fancy trim on the doors and gearshift and the seats and door panels are orange. Yes, orange! Orange on the inside, red on the outside. It's like a mango.
Here it is, tucked away in our garage spot:
