I was shocked to learn that Monday was opening day for baseball. When I came home and told Dave, he was shocked, too. Had we really been gone that long? Was it already spring in Michigan? Life in the States hadn’t stopped when we left?
Opening day really opened our eyes to the fact that this isn’t like vacation, when everything is pretty much the same as when you left. Things are happening over there, and we’re missing it all. The Tigers are playing baseball, thunderstorms have replaced blizzards, my roommate from college is having a baby, and Dave’s niece is growing like a weed.
I have a hard time accepting change, even if it’s good. When Dave’s parents remodeled their kitchen I was upset for weeks. Heaven forbid my parents move; I’d probably have a breakdown.
We came here for a challenge, to try something new. I guess I just didn’t realize how much other people would be changing, too.
Anyway, the Tigers lost on Monday. Some things never change.
Don't feel bad, Opening Day: KC 7 Red Sox 1. Looks like we're chasing the Yanks again. You're right, some things never change!
