Rue Rivoli

We're expecting my parents later this week, so we decided to spend a lowkey weekend in the city. Although Saturday wasn't particularly relaxing.

I've already mentioned the lack of air conditioning in the apartment and our car, but the climate control at my job leaves much to be desired as well. I work on the 2nd floor, which is really like a big catwalk or loft. I really like working up there, but being close to the ceiling, we get the worst temperature variations. Cold in the mornings, hot in the afternoons.

After a few weeks of nearly falling asleep at my desk after lunch, I decided that I needed to revamp my wardrobe for working in Meru in the summer (well, let's be honest-I'd take any excuse to revamp my wardobe). In the Auburn Hills office, the air conditioning would be cranked by now and I'd still be wearing cardigans. One can get away with a light winter wardobe all summer in Detroit.

Unbelievably, Dave said that he needed some new clothes as well, so he actually agreed to go shopping with me. Whee!

So Saturday morning we went into Paris and the rue Rivoli. We only visited 4 shops or so, but it was completly exhausting. The problem with shopping in Paris is that most of the shops not on the Champs-Elysees close by 6 or 7 and there's really no time to stop in after work. And nothing is open on Sundays, so everyone in Paris goes shopping on Saturday.

We would go to a store that had both men and women's clothing and visit the men's section first. After Dave was done I'd visit the women's section, which was inevitably twice as large and three times as crowded, and Dave would wait outside with a book of puzzles (thank you Lisa! oxox). In the average store I would look for maybe 20 minutes, then stand in dressing room and cashier lines for at least 40. By the time I managed to stumble out of the store, I was irritable and overheated. It was ugly.

So shopping wasn't as fun as I was hoping it would be and David made me promise to never make him do that again. I think next time we'll have to go on a weekday that we have off from work.
