Goodbye to The Intern

Today was The Intern's last day, and now I have no one left to pick on or speak English with. We took him to lunch at a Chinese restaurant in Méru, which took two hours. Good thing the boss was with us.

While he happily chatted about his plans for rentrée, I realized that teasing Pierre-Antoine was the only thing we all had in common. Well, aside from work, of course, but that's not fun to talk about.

I'll miss him a lot, I think. Besides the whole English thing, he was assigned to work with me and I enjoyed watching over him like a little brother.

Before the end of the day he gave me a bottle of champagne as a thank you. How French! He's from the region of Champagne, and his father was a champagne-maker at the second largest company in the area. The bottle he gave me was his father's work. I'm not much of a champagne drinker, but I was super impressed.
This week, after I was dumped with this new job, the bosses have decided that I need a new student to help me. Personally, I am not a fan of hiring a student to fix a staffing shortage when we work with really boring software that takes a lot of patience and and time to learn. But my first French intern experience turned out well, so we'll see.
