Last week, we received a letter from the French department of treasury: Our records indicate that you have not paid your taxes. Please pay them immediately.
I found this to be strange, because we had been on the alert for the tax bill - which we expected in September - for some weeks now. This was the first we had heard about it.
Today, seven days after I received the late notice, I received the French tax bill.
