La Poste Thinks I Should be a Man

I went to the La Poste webpage today to change our address. Which, of course, is free in the US, but in France this service costs 22 euros for 6 months. While I'm at it, I'll also take this opportunity to complain that domestic stamps for a country roughly the size of Texas are much more expensive than US stamps.

Anyway. I put in all of our old and new address information, then received this screen:

And what this translates to is:

The first name of the individual is considered a masculine name in the dictionary of first names. Are you certain that you would like to validate this individual without modification?

Which brought to mind the following:
  1. They think the name "Chi" is masculine. What business do they have assigning a gender to an Asian name?
  2. This in the country where names like "Valery" and "Vivian" belong to men
  3. What do they care, anyway? If I said "Madame", that's my choice.
  4. Maybe if they didn't invest in a "Dictionnaire des Prénoms", the La Poste could afford to lower stamp prices.
Ok, I sound bitter right now but I'm not. Bemused, maybe.
