One of the best things about being delayed is that we've been able to see some friends before we leave. On Wednesday we drove up to Lansing to see our friend Andy sworn into the Michigan House of Representatives (95th District - Saginaw). We took a walk through the capital and Andy brought us onto the legislative floor for a brief tour. We saw his "aye" and "nay" buttons, and I had to restrain myself from reaching over and pressing one of them.I tried to be smart and remember lessons from my high school civics class, but the only thing that came to mind was "filibuster", and that's just because it makes me giggle.
Across the street in the House Office Building, Representative Coulouris has a sprawling office, complete with a Chief of Staff and a beautiful view of the capital. All of his family and friends were gathered there for the celebration, and we spent some time admiring Andy and Natasha's baby Ally.
We found it ironic that we're learning all of these important things about Michigan law a few days before leaving the country.
