Carrefour

Last week in the mail we received a flier for Carrefour. Upon inspection, David decided it was the French equivalent of Wal-Mart, and good candidate for finding a drill. So yesterday we hopped in the car and asked the Tom Tom to take us to Carrefour.

It was more like the French equivalent of Meijer. We picked up a new alarm clock*, a phone, and a drill. The drill cost at least 20 euros more than the alarm clock, but for some reason we had to go through a whole procedure to buy the clock. First, we talked to a salesperson, who entered our name in her computer for the warranty. Then we had to take it to the jewelry counter where we paid. Then we went to front cashier to pay for everything else. I showed the cashier my receipt for the clock, and she promptly called over a manager. The manager took the clock receipt, fully inspected every side of the box, then wrote all kinds of stuff on the receipt. Then I had to sign it and we had to wait while he validated it somewhere else. All this for an alarm clock!

Anyway, now we have a drill to hang artwork, an alarm clock that doesn't run on watch batteries, and a phone that doesn't stink.

*I was told before leaving that my alarm clock wouldn't work in France because of the voltage difference. Even with an adaptor, the electricity change makes the clock run at a different speed.
