Today I visited Chinatown for the Chinese New Year parade. I was surprised to find that at least 95% of the spectators were not Asian. The weather was cold and gray, but I had fun laughing and taking photos with the rest of the crowd.
There were some great costumes, but I was a little disappointed by the dragons. At the parades we used to go to in Chicago, the dragons were big and fat and did all kinds of tricks. These dragons were skinny (French dragons, of course) and half the time their back legs had gotten bored and wandered off.
It was warming to see the locals run around and hug each other and say "Bonne Annee!" happily. Although it's still strange for me to hear Asians speaking French.
