Since we're signing the lease on our apartment this Wednesday, we need to have some money to turn over to the rental company: 2 months rent for deposit, the first month's rent, plus agency fees.
And since an international transfer takes no less than 48 hours, we had to arrange for the money to be moved from our US account today. Nothing like the last minute.
I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say we were sent all over Paris before we were finally able to arrange a transfer. Dave had to put his foot down and be quite firm. But we learned a valuable lesson I'd also read about in books: just because a French person says no doesn't mean it's impossible.
