France Does Christmas Trees

One day, not more than a few weeks ago, a little pine tree was living its happy life in a forest or a tree farm, with fresh air and frequent rain for its healthy roots.

And then some enterprising Frenchman came along, cut it down, sprayed it with something pink, and plopped it onto a sidewalk in Paris for sale for 50 euros.

I can't say I've ever felt as sorry for a tree as I have this year when I've seen what the French do to their Christmas trees. That's just downright degrading.

Ok, mind you, not all Christmas trees are covered with this weird foamy Crayola-colored stuff, and I have to admit I haven't seen anyone buy one. But there has to be a market for it. Obviously our local bakery forked over the cash. That's a real tree under there.

Seriously, who would want a black Christmas tree?
