Week in Paris

For the second week of our vacation, we decided to stay in Paris and visit it like tourists. Leisurely tourists. There isn't much to say, so I'll summarize with photos:

Monday: Le LouvreTuesday: FĂȘte de Tuileries - we visited the same carnival in the Tuileries gardens last year, and took the same swings ride, which was a lot of fun. But this year it made both of us sick.
Wednesday: Picnic on the Champs de Mars, in front of the Eiffel Tower
Thursday: Went to see In Bruges, which wasn't a particularly good movie, but since we've been to Bruges we enjoyed the setting at least.
Friday: 08.08.08 I had lunch with Sabrina and Josh, who are friends of Katie's living in Germany as expatriates for GM. I caught them after an exhausting morning at the Louvre, and escorted them to Montmarte before trotting home and going out for dinner in the city with Dave. We had one of the best meals we've ever had in Paris.
Saturday: Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes de Versaille - The Grand Evening Water Display
Every weekend in the summer, Versailles makes a big display of the fountains in the gardens. There are day and evening events, and David and I wanted to see the evening show to play with the tripod.

We invited Sabrina and Josh, and arrived at the palace just as the sun was setting. At 9:30 exactly, the crowds were allowed to enter the garden. Music from the hedges blared classical music, huge bubble machines were engaged around the entry, and the fountains were on full blast.
In the center of the grounds, a series of devices that can best be described as "flame throwers" blew out fire in tune with the music. And along with the lights, music, flames, and bubbles, the air was literally perfumed - to round out the sensory experience, I guess. We missed a few fountains, but the ones we did see were an incredible display.
The event was only open for a few hours, and ended with a big fireworks display over the Bassin du Char d'Apollon fountain.
